Brian Curran Photography : About

I am an amateur Landscape Photographer living in Northern Ireland. My interest in photography really began in 1996 when I bought a Minolta 7000 film SLR camera from a friend, not really knowing what I'd bought. I struggled to understand the camera and its settings and only occasionally produced a half decent image. In 2006 a Sony A100 dSLR camera was purchased and I enrolled in a City & Guilds photography course and passed with Distinction.

Shortly after a change to using Canon my passion for Landscape Photography really grew. I feel I've developed a unique style and technique developed from both the City & Guilds course and reading plenty of photography magazines. I'd read the magazines and then go out to try and reproduce similar images. It was almost a process of trial and error, learning from mistakes, but I'd like to think I'm now getting it right more times than I get it wrong. Whilst my passion for Landscape Photography grew so did the frequency of my early morning starts and late night drives to and from the Antrim coast, at which point my wife thought I was going nuts.

My approach to photography favours the natural vibrant colors of sunrise and sunset when the golden glow of the sun is strongest. My style relies on capturing the magical moment at the picture taking stage, rather than relying on photoshop editing skills. I like to get it right in-camera.

My work has been published in numerous monthly photography magazines and I've taken on a number of specialised commerical commissions. I occasionally run small group Landscape tutorial workshop, based around the North Antrim Coast and the Mourne Mountains.
